Keyline Design Basics for Alberta Land
Keyline thinking is about spreading water across a slope instead of letting it race down the primary valley. On Alberta till, that can mean a pond on the contour, a road that does not become a creek, and plantings that sit on the wetter line.
Start with a contour, not a slogan
You need elevation. A phone app is a sketch. A survey or a good DEM in a land report is better. Mark the main valley, the ridges, and any bench. The “keypoint” is a change of slope in the primary valley — a place water wants to linger.
Do not cut a wetland to make a keyline story come true.
