Alberta Aquifer Maps Explained
Aquifer maps are cartoons of the subsurface. Useful cartoons — if you remember they generalize. A polygon labelled Paskapoo does not guarantee sandstone under your kitchen.
What the map layers usually show
- **Bedrock geology** — formation names, not well yields
- **Surficial geology** — till, sand, gravel, organic
- **Buried valleys** — old channels that can hold productive sand
- **Well locations** — points with IDs you can pull
Read points first, polygons second. Three well IDs within a kilometre beat a pretty formation colour.
How to use them with a listing
Print the map, mark the pin, then list nearby well depths and static levels. If they cluster, you have a story. If they scatter, you have a question for a driller, not a price you can lock.
