Fencing in Wheatland County
Fence lines in Wheatland County cross low-density wetland country, which decides post depth, brace placement, and where a crossing needs a Water Act check. Wheatland is drier prairie country with grain, pulses, and cattle, and some land inside irrigation districts. Wind and evaporation matter as much as rainfall, so moisture-saving practices such as reduced tillage and residue cover are often part of the plan.
Rotational grazing cross-fencing and livestock watering have been supported under Alberta's Resilient Agricultural Landscape Program and the federal On-Farm Climate Action Fund in past intakes; check the grant quiz and the program pages. Related: Wheatland County farm guide.

Common questions
What fence do I need for cattle versus wildlife?
Four or five strand barbed or high-tensile for cattle; eight-foot woven or electric offset for deer and elk around orchards and gardens. Wildlife fence is a different package with different contractors.
Can I fence across a slough in Wheatland County?
A fence line can cross a wetland without draining it, but posts in standing water and vehicle crossings can trigger a Water Act check. Keep the line on the upland where you can.
Is fencing grant-eligible?
Cross-fencing for rotational grazing and riparian exclusion fencing have been eligible under Alberta and federal producer programs in past intakes. Perimeter fence on an acreage is not. Check the grant quiz.
